CAT-W “The Friendship Bond”
The passage “The Friendship Bond” by Parlee,M.B shows that two most important elements of friendship are trust and acceptance. Parlee uses a psychology statistic to support his opinion. The statistic shows people are looking forfriends who can trust and understands them. Also, friendship always end by betrayed and disagreement of important issues. In addition, the author state trust and acceptance can make friendship to become deeper. In my opinion, acceptance is important for friendship, but the most significant element for friendship is trust.
Parlee states acceptance is important and I agree with this. The book I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot shows the same information. By doing the research about HeLa cells, Skloot became good friend with Lacks family especially with Deborah. Because of the health problems, Deborah’s emotion goes up and down very fast. If Skloot can’t accept this, she will not become the best friend with Deborah, and the book will not be successful.
Following Parlee’s thinking, the most important building block of friendship is trust. The author said “both members in a friendship must be open with and trust one another for their relationship to become deeper.” This reminds me of one thing that happened when I was in middle school. I had a friend, he was my classmate and sat next to me. But one day he lost his whiteout and unfortunately I had one that looked like the one he lost. He thought I stealed his whiteout. I bought my whiteout the week before but I couldn’t prove the one I had is not the one he lost. So we were not good friend anymore. I felt sad about this, because he didn’t trust me.
The word “trust” also reminds me of movie I have watched called “GATTACA”. In the movie, the main character Vincent borrowed Eugene’s identity to achieve his dream. But Vincent and Eugene become best friends, because they trust each other and Vincent always talk about his dream with Eugene. In the end of the movie, Eugene said to Vincent “I just borrow you my identity, but you share your dream with me.” This part is very impressive for me, the two people trust each other share their dream and became best friends.
Overall, acceptance is important for friendship , but the most significant element of friendship is trust. Without trust the friendship can’t endure. With trust two friends can make a deeper relationship.
